AIRPORT WHS RISK MANAGEMENT (AWHSRM)

AIRPORT WHS RISK MANAGEMENT (AWHSRM) COURSE

AWHSRM ONLINE course - AUD $750.00* (ex GST)

Course Overview

The Airport WHS Risk Management course provides airport managers, safety professionals, and operational leaders with the knowledge and skills to identify, assess, and control workplace health and safety (WHS) risks in a dynamic airport environment.

Grounded in the Australian WHS Act 2011, WHS Regulations, and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, the course equips participants to manage hazards unique to airports, from high-risk airside operations to public-facing terminal environments. Participants will learn how to integrate WHS practices with an airport’s Safety Management System (SMS) to create a unified, compliant, and proactive approach to safety.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand WHS legal obligations in an airport context, including the roles and responsibilities of PCBUs, officers, and workers.

  • Identify common WHS hazards across airside and landside operations, and assess their associated risks.

  • Apply effective risk control measures in line with the hierarchy of control.

  • Develop and implement Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for operational tasks.

  • Understand incident reporting requirements, including notifiable incidents under WHS legislation.

  • Conduct and contribute to effective WHS incident investigations.

  • Engage in meaningful WHS consultation and communication with workers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Integrate WHS risk management processes with the airport’s SMS and continuous improvement framework.

Benefits of Completing This Course

Participants will gain:

  • Compliance confidence – understanding how to meet WHS Act and Regulation requirements in an aviation setting.

  • Risk reduction skills – practical tools to manage WHS risks in high-pressure airport operations.

  • Improved safety culture – strategies to lead and influence positive WHS behaviours across diverse workgroups.

  • Operational integration – ability to align WHS processes with SMS requirements for streamlined safety management.

  • Preparedness for audits – knowledge to meet ISO 45001 and regulator expectations.

Who Should Enrol

This course is designed for personnel involved in managing, supervising, or coordinating airport operations with WHS responsibilities, including:

  • Airport facilities managers and operations supervisors

  • WHS managers, officers, and coordinators

  • Human resources and compliance staff

  • Ground handling supervisors and ramp managers

  • Contractor managers and project supervisors working in airport environments

  • Safety representatives and members of health and safety committees
