The aim and objectives of HIAT training is to equip the candidate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform an effective and in-depth inspection of a helideck compliant with all aspects of the UKCAA CAP 437 Standards.
Who should enrol in this course?
Any person appointed by the company which employs them to ensure a helideck is fit for purpose and ready for an external UKCAA CAP 437 inspection.
What does the course cover?
This online certified course, provides the prospective helideck inspector with a comprehensive and in-depth insight into the legal requirements of helideck offshore operations and covers all aspects of a helideck inspection, including the preparation before an inspection, the inspection itself and all follow-up activities required to completed certification.

1. INTRODUCTIONThe introduction gives a brief overview of the Flight Safety Group and explains the objectives of the HIAT training course. In addition, the main legal references for this course are covered in the introduction. 4 sections

2. RIG DESIGNThis module gives an overview of different types of fixed and moving offshore installations, including various types of oil rigs, drill ships, FPSO's and yachts. 2 sections

3. HELIDECK INSPECTIONAn overview of the components of a Helideck Inspection, including the Inspector requirements and an outllne of the procedures involved in a UKCAA CAP 437 inspection. 2 sections

4. HELIDECK LANDING AREAS AND POTENTIAL HAZARDSPotential hazards in and around the helideck are detailed, including the safety regulations for safe operations 4 sections

5. HELIDECK DESIGN & SURFACEEvery aspect of the helideck is discussed, including the markings, layout and equipment. These must be kept in safe operating conditions according to UKCAA CAP 437. 3 sections

6. HELIDECK LIGHTINGThe latest UKCAA CAP 437 lighting standards are discussed in detail, including the new requirement for the TD/PM and H lighting requirements 2 sections

7. HELIDECK ADDITIONSThis module covers regulatory additions to the helideck and helideck operations from large additions such as the perimeter net, to small additions such as Safety Posters. 6 sections

8. RESCUE AND FIREFIGHTING FACILITIESRegulatory requirements for rescue and fire-fighting, including equipment, materials and crew training, are covered in this module. 3 sections

9. HELIDECK CREWAll aspects of the requirements of the helideck crew are covered here, including manning policies, duties and responsibilities on the helideck and towards passengers and cargo. 9 sections

10. HELIDECK LIMITATIONSHelideck operations may have limits imposed if certain minimum levels of safety are not maintained, specifically during adverse weather conditions. This module describes these limitations and where to source the list which applies. 2 sections
