The aim and objectives of HERTM REFRESHER training is to equip the candidate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform the roles of offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) and Helideck Assistant (HDA) safely and effectively.
Who should enrol in this course?
Any person currently acting as HDA with a valid HOIT certificate and a current HERTM certificate that is due to expire. This course is OPITO equivalent and is a means of renewing HERTM certification without having to undergo the full HERTM training.
What are the benefits for attendees?
- The HERTM Refresher training is a shortened, and less expensive, means of renewing HERTM certification.
- The HERTM will be reminded of basic structures, operations and legal standards of helidecks and helicopter landing requirements.
- The latest amendments to all aspects of UKCAA CAP 437 and Industry Best Practice will be drawn to attention.
- The operating company will have continuous valid certification of their crew members, which is vital for all aspects of safety operations and insurance requirements.
What does the course cover?
This online certified course, which is OPITO equivalent, provides the acting HDA with a comprehensive and in-depth insight into the legal and practical intricacies of helideck offshore operations with emphasis on helideck hazards and management systems as well as the HDA responsibilities during helicopter landing and departure on both attended and unattended installations.
More specifically, the course includes but is not limited to:
- Helideck Landing Areas
- Rescue and Fire Fighting equipment and requirements
- The aspects of meteorological conditions and the importance of accurate offshore weather reporting
- Potential helicopter and helideck hazards
- The helideck crew requirements, including duties and responsibilities during emergency response.
- The helideck crew duties and responsibility during Normally Unattended Installation (NUI) operations.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS FOR FINAL CERTIFICATE
This course requires 100% pass rate for each quiz at the end of each module.
After each quiz, check your score to ensure all answers are correct. If not, click the "previous" tab to revert back to the beginning of the module. Go through the module again and then take the quiz again. Once you have correctly answered all the questions, click the "continue" tab to move to the next module.
The final certificate will only be generated if 100% pass rate has been achieved for each module.

1. INTRODUCTIONThe introduction gives a brief overview of Aeronautical Enterprises and explains the objectives of the HERTM Refresher training course. In addition, the main legal references for this course are covered in the introduction. 4 sections

2. HELIDECK DESIGN & INSTALLATIONThis module gives a brief overview of different types of fixed and moving offshore installations, including various types of oil rigs, drill ships, FPSO's and yachts. 2 sections

3. HELIDECK LANDING AREASThe HDA needs to be aware of every aspect of the helideck, in order to ensure the markings, layout and equipment are kept in safe operating conditions according to UKCAA CAP 437. 7 sections

4. RESCUE AND FIREFIGHTING FACILITIESIn this module, the HDA is reminded of the regulatory requirements for rescue and fire-fighting, including equipment, materials and crew training. 3 sections

5. METEOROLOGICAL INFORMATIONBasic weather conditions required for weather reporting are covered in this module, including wind speed and direction, air temperature, air pressure, cloud formation and pitch, roll and heave. 2 sections

6. HELICOPTER AND HELIDECK HAZARDSDetails of the most common helideck emergencies and the way in which they should be managed, are covered in this module. 3 sections

7. HELIDECK CREWAll aspects of the requirements of the helideck crew are covered here, including manning policies, duties and responsibilities on the helideck and towards passengers and cargo. 3 sections

8. RESPONSE ON A NUIPro-active prevention of, and responses to, potential emergencies on a Normally Unattended Installation (NUI) are detailed in this module. 2 sections
